Tip Us

MorningTimes.uk welcomes tips from the public, whistleblowers, experts and anyone with information that serves the public interest. This page explains how to submit a tip securely, what we look for, how we verify material, and how we protect your confidentiality.

Who is responsible for handling tips at MorningTimes.uk?

Overall editorial responsibility for tip handling rests with Editor‑in‑Chief Edward Sterling (edward.sterling@morningtimes.uk). Day‑to‑day triage and verification are led by Helen Carver, our Standards & Fact‑Checking Lead (helen.carver@morningtimes.uk). All tips are reviewed by the relevant desk editor – Politics & Public Affairs Editor Marcus Bell, Business & Economy Editor Priya Sharma, or Culture & Society Editor James Holloway – before any publication decision is made.

MorningTimes.uk is operated by Windmill Hill Media Ltd., a private company limited by shares registered in Gibraltar (company number 130642). Our registered office is Suite 12, Neptune House, Marina Bay, Gibraltar GX11 1AA. Full ownership and funding details are set out in our ownership and funding statement.

What makes a good tip for MorningTimes.uk?

A good tip is one that reveals a matter of genuine public interest, particularly institutional wrongdoing, systemic failures, misuse of public money, or data that exposes a pattern affecting a significant number of people.

We are a UK‑focused publication. Tips about UK politics, government policy, business conduct, public‑sector accountability, technology regulation, court proceedings, and cultural or societal issues that affect British audiences are most likely to be followed up. Time‑sensitive news – events unfolding now that affect public understanding or safety – is also a priority.

We do not publish rumours, speculation, or material that cannot be independently corroborated. A good tip includes verifiable primary sources, documentary evidence, or clear accounts from named or identifiable witnesses.

How can I reach you with a tip or information?

Use tips@morningtimes.uk for story tips, documents, or leads that require investigation. For urgent, time‑sensitive news, contact newsdesk@morningtimes.uk directly. Press releases and media announcements should be sent to press@morningtimes.uk. General enquiries can go to info@morningtimes.uk.

If you need to raise a correction or complaint, use corrections@morningtimes.uk – our corrections policy explains the process. For legal concerns or requests related to copyright or data, write to legal@morningtimes.uk.

What should I include when submitting a tip?

Include the key facts: who is involved, what happened or is happening, when it occurred, and where. Provide any supporting materials – documents, screenshots, emails, internal reports, audio or video recordings – but only if you hold them lawfully and ethically.

You may indicate whether you are speaking on the record, on background, or off the record. Please state your preference clearly at the start of your message. If you request anonymity, we will not share your identity without your explicit consent, subject to our legal obligations.

How does MorningTimes.uk verify tips?

Every tip is assessed by our Standards & Fact‑Checking desk under Helen Carver. We follow the procedures set out in our fact‑checking policy and sources and standards guidelines.

We seek independent corroboration, check documentary evidence against original sources, and interview relevant parties before publishing. We do not present rumours as facts. If a tip cannot be verified to our editorial standards, we will not publish it. We may also contact you for further information or to clarify on‑ or off‑the‑record terms.

How do you protect my confidentiality?

We take confidentiality seriously. If you ask to remain anonymous, we will not disclose your identity to anyone outside the editorial team without your permission, unless legally compelled to do so. Legal matters should be addressed to legal@morningtimes.uk.

Any personal data you provide when submitting a tip is handled in accordance with our privacy policy. We advise against including sensitive personal information in unencrypted emails; if you need to share highly confidential material, contact us first to discuss secure methods.

What happens after I submit a tip?

You will receive an automated acknowledgment within two working days, and a substantive response from a relevant editor within five working days. If we decide to pursue your tip, we will explain next steps and any conditions (such as embargoes or verification requests).

If you do not hear back within five working days, you may contact us via the general contact page. For corrections to any published article, please write to corrections@morningtimes.uk – our corrections policy sets out the review process.
