Corrections Policy

MorningTimes.uk, operated by Windmill Hill Media Ltd., a private company limited by shares registered in Gibraltar (company number 130642), is committed to correcting all significant errors promptly, transparently and with full accountability. Our corrections policy sets out who is responsible, how readers can report mistakes, what steps we take to investigate and resolve them, and how corrections are published. This policy applies to all editorial content across our digital publication, including news, analysis, explainers, opinion pieces and practical guides.

Who is responsible for corrections at MorningTimes.uk?

Helen Carver, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, oversees all corrections at MorningTimes.uk. She and her team review every reported error against our editorial standards before any change is made. Serious or systemic errors are escalated directly to the Editor-in-Chief, Edward Sterling, who makes the final decision on significant corrections. You can meet our team on our Our Team page.

The standards desk, led by Helen Carver, is the central point for verifying facts, checking sources and ensuring that any correction is accurate and proportionate. This desk operates independently of the newsroom to avoid conflicts of interest in the review process. Edward Sterling retains ultimate editorial authority for publication decisions, including the nature and prominence of correction notices.

How do I report a potential error?

If you believe you have found an error in any article published on MorningTimes.uk, please email corrections@morningtimes.uk with as much detail as possible. Your email should include the full URL of the article, a clear description of the alleged mistake, and – where helpful – the correct information or a source to support your claim. You may also include your name and contact details if you wish to receive a follow-up, though we accept anonymous reports.

We also accept correction requests via our general Contact page, but using the dedicated corrections address ensures your report reaches the standards desk directly. Please do not submit correction requests through social media or comments sections, as these may not be reviewed in a timely manner.

What happens after you receive a correction request?

Our standards desk acknowledges every correction request within five working days. During this period, the desk reviews the allegation, checks the original sources used in the article, and – if necessary – consults the relevant editor or reporter. If the error is confirmed as material, the article is updated, and a correction note is appended with the date and a brief explanation of what was changed and why.

Non-material errors, such as minor typographical mistakes that do not affect meaning, are corrected without a formal note but are still recorded internally. For all significant corrections, the Editor-in-Chief is notified. If the error involves potential legal or compliance issues – such as defamation, privacy breaches or copyright infringement – the matter is immediately escalated to our legal and compliance team via legal@morningtimes.uk.

How are corrections applied and communicated?

When a material error is corrected, the article itself is updated, and a clear correction note is placed at the top of the page. The note includes the date of correction and a concise summary of the original mistake and the correction made. No changes are made to the historical record without such a note. For errors in previously published newsletters or social media posts, we issue a separate correction statement on the relevant platform.

Our approach to fact-checking and source verification is detailed in our Fact-Checking Policy, and our broader editorial standards can be found in our Editorial Policy. Both documents explain the procedures that underpin our corrections process. Readers who are dissatisfied with the outcome of a correction request may use our Complaints Procedure to seek further review, including by the Editor-in-Chief.
